So now that we're nearly sold out of the two new DICKS' releases, here's a couple of cool reviews from the new (#279) issue of MRR, that say it better than I could hope to. There are also some more over at the very cool Terminal Boredom site.

When we are all dead and in our graves, someone somewhere will drop the needle on the DICKS "Hate The Police" for the first time or the hundredth time and feel what I feel right now -- the transcendent, otherworldly sensation of listening to something so great, so larger- than-life that it manages to blot out all of the cold cruelness of this fucked up world, or maybe magnify it only to destroy it, if only for a moment. There is no god so the opening chords to "Hate The Police" might very well be the meaning of life. Back to earth: this is a two song single, legitimately released with Gary Floyd artwork of outtakes from the Hate the Police sessions of 1980. Side A ("Pigs Run Wild") is a song later re- recorded for Kill From The Heart LP, rendered here a bit more slowly and dramatically than the LP version. Gary sounds completely amazing, of course. The B-side is the Greatest Song of All Time, and sounds pretty close to the version they chose to release on that original EP. Because that record is a valuable rarity these days, this single is the only legitimate way to own this song on vinyl for most of us. What can I say? If you don't want this record you are probably a closet homophobe, an unrepentant poser, or just need to have your head (or heart) examined. (GN)

Six song EP recorded in 1980 at what must have been one of the DICKS' earliest live shows. The band opens with "Kill From the Heart," a punk anthem if there ever was one. While not as tight as on their split live LP with the BIG BOYS, the DICKS are no less vicious here, with Gary Floyd spitting bile-soaked lyrics over loose, trashed-out bluesy punk and taunting the audience in between songs. The best track on here, I think, is "Bookstore"---"Another Saturday night out in the bookstore / It looks like every fuckin' piece of trash in town blew in." It's hard to imagine now, in liberal San Francisco in 2006, how out there the DICKS must have been in Texas in 1980. So much more extreme than the pathetic antics of someone like G.G. ALLIN. Anyway, I wouldn't suggest this record as an introduction to the DICKS (check out the 1980-1986 CD on Alternative Tentacles), but otherwise it's essential listening for any folks who might think they're punk. The Skip Jensen full length CD is out! Skip is a well respected contributer to the rockin' garage scene in Montreal, known for his own unique brand of stripped down punky, blues soaked rock n' roll. This is without question Skip's best stuff yet!! Flat out wailin' and stompin, riled up and volatile; these songs burn! Check out the catalog page for his new CD and 7" on Delta Pop.

The Scat Rag Boosters' first full length CD is now in stock and shipping!! We're very proud to be working with the Boosters as they're one of the few bands in recent memory who have really captured the raw power and urgency that makes rock n' roll fun and exciting! The vinyl version is being released by our friends at the French Yakisakana label, be sure to pick one of those up before they're gone! Also look for a full length remastered collection of rare Boosters 7" and compilation tracks as well as some unreleased bonus cuts.
